DO NOT LET THINGS OF THE PAST DESTROY YOUR LIFE
DO NOT LET THINGS OF THE PAST DESTROY YOUR LIFE
Genesis 19:16-17,26GNT
Lot hesitated. The LORD, however, had pity on him; so the men took him, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and led them out of the city. Then one of the angels said, “Run for your lives! Don't look back and don't stop in the valley. Run to the hills, so that you won't be killed.”26 But Lot's wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
In the message we can see that one of the greatest mistake we make in life which sometimes ruins our lives for good is letting things of the past to hunt us.
We have to understand that sometimes is not even MISTAKES but MISTAKE ( just one mistake) can ruin your life completely.
I came to understand that most of us we are destroyed because we like to let things of the past to come into our lives and letting them to control our lives, and that is the greatest trick of the devil that he uses to play with our minds and life so that we are distracted to our bright future ahead of us.
For example, You are a born again Christian and maybe because of the past life you once lived when you let your mind focus on those things you start thinking you are not worth of the grace is upon you now as a result you start living in past because of the thoughts you are allowing to dominate your life.
Here we see in our opening verse that lot's family was saved from the destruction of Sodom but if they won't look back to the place they have come from. We see that Sodom was a place full of sin thus why when lot's family were been rescued were not suppose to look behind, cause the moment they look behind after entering into a nee zone, those images and ways of Sodom was going to hunt them in that new zone and they were not going to move on with new life.
Thus why we move forward and forget the past. We now see in Genesis 19:26, lots wife disobeyed the order as the results her life was destroyed.
We learn from this incident that she destroyed her own life by bringing back in present things of the past as some of us like to do or want to do. But by God's grace stop that now!!!
Philippians 3:13-14 NIV
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind(A) and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on(B) toward the goal to win the prize(C) for which God has called(D) me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Thus why we see in Philippians, Apostle Paul is telling us that since now he has been saved by the special grace of our Lord Christ, his goal now is FORGETTING those things which are BEHIND and REACHING FORWARD to those things which are AHEAD. Which means our future when we are saved by the special grace is in our hands to maintain it and one thing we are learning here from Apostle Paul;
To maintain the grace and future on us,let us forget things behind us and press ahead.
Looking behind God hate it and it hurts Him cause that shows His grace is not sufficient for us.
Jeremiah 7:23-24 NIV
23 but I gave them this command:(A) Obey(B) me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.(C) Walk in obedience to all(D) I command you, that it may go well(E) with you. 24 But they did not listen(F) or pay attention;(G) instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts.(H) They went backward(I) and not forward.
And according to this book Jeremiah we see that is what lead the death of lot's wife.
In addition we in Exodus
Exodus 14:15 KJV
15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
This means God will never want you to go back to the things of the past cause He knows they will just ruin your life.
Therefore, never let past mistakes (mistake) be your hinderance to the promises of God in your life. And never let the challenges around you makes you think the past is berry than your future!!!!
Exodus 10:10 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
10 Then he said to them, “The Lord had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
9 But he said to me, “My grace(A) is sufficient for you, for my power(B) is made perfect in weakness.(C)”(D) Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
The response is now yours to continue living in the past or to come out of them
